Islip Bulletin: This Monday, May 27, is the official date to acknowledge Memorial Day this year.
There are a number of events planned across the area, where those who paid the ultimate price for freedom are honored. Here are the locations for those events.
At 8 a.m., American Legion Post 1738 will hold a prayer service in front of West Islip High School to honor the 11 hometown heroes that never made it back from the Vietnam War.
At 8:15 a.m., the West Islip Historical Society is holding a ceremony and wreath-laying at the Weeks-Muncey Cemetery on Boulevard Avenue, where two Revolutionary War soldiers are buried.
The parade gathers at the corner of Rodrick and Udall Road at 10 a.m. It kicks off at 10:30 a.m. and proceeds south to Higbie Lane, where it will make a stop for a prayer service and wreath-laying at the memorial at the intersection of Udall Road and Higbie Lane.
Continuing south, the parade ends at the Paul J Bellew Elementary School where a ceremony and wreath-laying will take place. After the service, the Post will hold an open house that everyone is invited to attend.
