The West Islip Chamber of Commerce (WICC) hosted a lively Installation Breakfast on Wednesday, January 15th, in the cozy and spacious neighborhood restaurant, PRIMI Italian Steakhouse. Restaurateur, Frank Bono and Diane Fontana, VP of Membership, greeted many new members and familiar faces, as PRIMI's staff graciously guided guests into the dining room showing them to a hearty breakfast buffet.

During breakfast, Rich Carpenter, President, recapped a successful 2019. He talked about programs WICC implemented to stimulate business around town, saying, “We had a good year, so much so, that this year, and for the first time, we were able to double the amount of scholarships we gave to students." Looking forward to 2020, Rich first thanked several outgoing board members for their commitment and service to the community these past few years and then he welcomed new incoming board members, introducing Diane Munno-Alonso, teacher at West Islip Public Schools, Laura Spencer Brennan, local Attorney at Law, Michael Mercurio, Commissioner, West Islip Fire Department, and John Raimondi, owner of Our Little Italy, a favorite establishment among pizza lovers in town.

Continuing, Rich noted a couple of new things the Chamber has planned for 2020. It is going to self-produce a membership guide/directory (reaching over 8,800 homes in West Islip) by putting a different spin on it. The guide will be more of a magazine in format, giving merchants the opportunity to come in at a lesser expense rate than typical weeklies, but provide a vehicle that has a longer shelf life, with content focusing on our history and how West Islip came about, including merchant highlights, and a lot of tidbits that should be fun. In late spring, WICC plans to start a video series, basically, a hard core promotion on Facebook for merchants, with brief feature introductions, again, trying to connect with community and build up some web traffic. Additionally, the Chamber is going to do something new that's actually old style promotion. Rich said, "If you were around in the 70’s, you may remember the Welcome Wagon," to which the mere mention of the Welcome Kit program evoked reminiscent rejoices from the crowd. The plan is to give merchants an opportunity to provide WICC with flyers that will be slipped into a folder and as new people move into town one of the real estate agents or someone from the board will make a personal introduction and welcome newcomers to the community.

In closing, President Carpenter thanked everyone for attending and supporting the Chamber, he then called for “brief” self-introductions around the room, beginning with past president, Nancy Donohue. The attendees included, Charles and Adele Spencer, Lisa Guariglia, Carolyn James, Diane Fontana, Rich Carpenter, Belinda Rubino, Gregg Marano, Michael Mercurio, Brad Wilson, Supervisor Angie Carpenter, members from the West Islip School District, Sgt.
